VIRTUAL STUDIO \ GROUP LESSON DESCRIPTION

In this course we’ll be spending a month exploring the human head. This introduction class will lead us through learning more about how artists have depicted the human head over the years through portraits and self-portraits. It’s another of those aspects of drawing and painting which people tend to find a little tricky - so I thought we would have a go after the success of the human form in November. Grab a paintbrush ( and perhaps a glass of wine) and we’ll see you there.!

Each lesson will be divided between practical and theoretical work. 30 minutes at the start of every class is given over to learning a little art history, and then we will have a solid hour for the drawing and painting side of things, which I will do alongside you, explaining mu decisions and choices as I go along. Every week we will focus on a different aspects of the subject. The classes will be a mix of Art History, a little culture, and of course some drawing and painting in our virtual travel journals... starting with the Early Renaissance and the artists who shaped the next 100 years (and beyond), then moving through the rest of this important period. We will, as usual, “visit” some masterpieces in drawing and painting, and discover how to translate them into a visual journey of our own.

Students will be working alongside Julian during these live sessions as he explains travel sketching, watercolour painting, and how to make a beautiful and rewarding travel journal. The group will be limited to 12 students (in 2 timezone groups) in order that you will have an opportunity for one-on-one personal assistance and critique. We hope this will be a lot of fun and that the group atmosphere will inspire you to produce some terrific artwork.

GROUP LESSONS

All levels welcome. From beginner to professional, these virtual lessons are valuable to expand your abilities, skills, and range of possibilities. In a fun and relaxed atmosphere, you’ll be able to receive the time and attention you’ll need to accomplish your goal of either continuing on current work, or creating something new for the first time!

Each group online lesson will be conducted through Zoom (the virtual classroom). We will send complete instructions on how to easily connect to this after sign up. All you’ll need to do is click the link and we’ll be waiting!

INSTRUCTOR

Julian Hyzler will be your instructor for this unique online program. As the founder of Artist in Italy and Easel&Lens, he has been leading international art groups for over 12 years and teaching students of all ages and abilities for nearly 30 years. Adept in various mediums and techniques, from painting (oil, acrylic, water) and drawing, to photography and mixed media, Julian will lead each student in a personalised program designed for each skill-level and interest.
